Can Open Relationships be as Satisfying as Monogamous Ones?

Updated: Jan 15

By Dr. Louis V. Haynes

The themes in the article below are definitely what I have seen in working with couples. Yes, you can find happiness in an open relationship, but it can become very messy in a very short span of time. Just as in monogamous relationships, trust is the foundation for relationship success and satisfaction. Relationships that have significant power differentials between two partners often struggle with trust. If you're considering opening your relationship, you will want to carefully consider if your partner is someone who you feel is honest and always has your best interest at heart. If you have concerns about deception, opening the relationship up may be a recipe for disaster.
