Spencer Dimmick

Clinical Intern

Hi there! I am a counselor-in-training at Adler University, working toward a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Prior to that, I received my Bachelors in English and Classics from Tufts University in 2018 and have spent the time in between working in scholarly publishing.Reaching out to a therapist is one of the most vulnerable things a person can do, and even with the stigma around mental health easing in today's society, it's still so hard to take that first step. If you're here, it's because you know you would benefit from treatment and care, and I would be honored to start the therapeutic process with you. One of the easiest things I can do to honor the vulnerability you've already shown is to treat you with empathy, compassion, and understanding that you are the expert in your own life - not me. Your goals for therapy set the course and we travel it together, with unconditional acceptance and nonjudgmental attitude.

As a queer-identified person, I am a strong advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. I also believe that we are all storytellers at heart, and I primarily make use of narrative therapy and Adlerian therapy in counseling treatment. My approach centers you as the expert, and together we unpack the narratives of your life and presenting concerns, and re-author them into new stories that center you and show the strengths you have. I look forward to hearing the stories you have to share and helping you write new ones that increase your happiness and wellbeing!
