Dr. Andrés Rivera Amador
Postdoctoral Fellow
Hi, my name is Andrés. I am a postdoctoral fellow who graduated from Duquesne University with a doctorate in clinical psychology in 2025. I also received a master’s degree in clinical psychology at Duquesne University in 2020 after completing a terminal master’s degree in existential phenomenological psychology at Seattle University in 2018. I attended the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus in 2016, graduating with a bachelor’s degrees in psychology and philosophy. I have worked with a range of therapeutic interventions and have previous experience in integrated health, community mental health, university counseling centers & outpatient clinics.
I am a therapist who provides interventions from a relational cultural approach while drawing from humanistic, critical race theory, liberation psychologies, and multicultural approaches. What that means for me in practice is that I try as much as possible to contextualize people’s styles of being, rather than pathologizing them. Diagnosis then serves the purpose of identifying patterns of relating or better understanding ourselves, rather than upholding a ‘stigmatizing label’. Additionally, I utilize somatic work techniques such as focusing, mindfulness, or deep breathing to deepen awareness of one’s body. I have worked with clients across the lifespan, providing individual therapy and group therapy. I am also able to provide psychological assessment or testing services. I offer therapy in both English and Spanish.
